India's Impact on the Global World after 70 years of Achieving Independence
What reasons do we have to claim that we've made an impact on the Globe? Well, I derive this from our ranking in the National Happiness Index released by the UN. We stand at the 118th position! Whereas China- 83rd, Pakistan-92nd (about 26 places ahead of us!), the Palestinian Territory, 108th ( and mind you even the amount of displaced population determines the scale of happiness of a country) and Bangladesh, 110th.
The fields that are thoroughly researched in the making of the report include-
Economics, Psychology, National Statistics, Survey Analysis and Public Policy to name a few. Through which of these fields can we set out to make an impact?
Economics and Public Policy? Well, how do you answer this when corporate hubs like Gurugram and Mumbai come to a standstill just because of water logging due to the 'awaited' rains! Psychology and Surveys? How do you answer this when major respondents are illiterate?
We take pride in our democracy but is it beneficial to us? The people who vote in the elections are uneducated, how do you expect that the government that comes to power is an ideal one? Rather, people who compete in the elections are uneducated and at times it so happens that they are unaware of how the system functions!
The countries that top the NHI include Denmark (1), Switzerland (2), Iceland, Norway, Finland... All have strong social security systems whereas we fail to provide basic ammenities during major outbreaks like Dengue and Malaria!
I strongly believe that we have a lot to offer to the world in terms of Yoga, Spirituality, natural resources and it will attract global economies to invest once the above mentioned issues are addressed. But the past 70 years haven't been as imapactful as they could have been.
